Acne And Its Treatment

Acne is a menace. However, it’s not something that cannot be dealt with. There are plenty of acne skin care products and solutions around.

We can classify acne skin care products into 3 broad classes –

Precautionary or basic acne skin care products
Over-the-counter, specialist acne skin care products
On-prescription acne skin care products.
The basic acne skin care items are the ones that are used as acne-prevention measure. These include skin cleansers, make-up removers and related products that help protect against acne. In the real sense, these acne skin care items are just those that should anyway be part of your day-to-day routine. On the other hand, some of these are more concentrated to act like an acne skin care item. These acne skin care items act towards the causes of acne e.g. constraining the production of sebum/oil and protecting against blockage of skin tiny holes. Basically, these acne skin care items protect against the oil from getting stuck in skin pores and therefore slow down the growth of bacteria that cause to acne. The basic acne skin care items also include exfoliating products like skin chemical peels. These work towards eliminating dead skin cells, hence cutting down the probability of pore-clogging and harmful bacteria development.

Then there are specialist acne skin care products that are accessible over-the-counter i.e. without the need of a doctor’s prescription. These consist of products like vanishing creams which draw out the extra oil from the skin. Most of these acne skin care items are based on benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, both of which are the opponents of bacteria (and hence acne). You should start with a product that has lower content level of benzoyl peroxide (e.g. 5%) and see how your skin reacts to it. Alpha-hydroxy-acid based skin lotions are also popular as acne skin care items. You might have to try a few, before you zero-in on the acne skin care product that is effective for you. If nothing seems to work, you should contact a skin specialist.

On-prescription acne skin care products are the ones that are recommended by a skin specialist. This can include treatments that can be applied on the damaged area or oral prescription antibiotics or just any topical treatment method. Skin specialist could also recommend a minor surgical method to remove the contents of pustules. However, never try to press or do this by yourself, it can lead to long-lasting destruction of your skin. Your doctor could also recommend a hormone-based treatment (since hormonal changes are also known to cause acne). Such acne skin care products are known to be very effective in some cases.

So, with all those acne skin care products, dealing with acne is not that challenging.
